Well I ended up going with the MPK61. The keyboard is interesting, but since I'm used to playing a piano it isn't difficult. I could imagine that compared to a softer weighted synth, though, it might be harder to nuance the very lightest touches. Oh well I'll survive.
Regarding the Axiom Pro vs the MPK builds: The Axiom keyboard felt weak. The knobs and sliders felt awful. The sliders were jerky, the knobs felt very very cheap. In this the Akai line clearly wins.
I do wish that the Akai had something a little closer to Hypercontrol (or AutoMap). The first thing I did today was rip the remote script for the MPK61 out of the beta app and put it into the production, now the transport works again.

Does anybody have any interesting and useful Vyzex patches for non-Lite Live? I suppose I'll end up having to go in and map my own, but it would be appreciated.

Hey guys, long time no post... like, years.
Anyway I'm selling the remainder of my hardware synths and needing a reasonably lightweight but long enough controller that I can use live without breaking my back or budget. (So, 61 key).
I'm looking heavily at the Axiom Pro 61, but since I already own an (almost never used, but I want to change that) APC40 I wonder whether the Hypercontrol stuff would be getting in the way? For any loopy/studio control I would obviously prefer to use the APC40 whose control surface is matched so specifically to Live. When playing live *as a keyboardist* not looper (e.g. at church or something where'd I'd just be using my laptop as a sound source (Live instruments / hosted instruments / Reason)I would *not* probably have the APC40 with me. At that point I would not mind having that extra layer.

Any thoughts on keyboard controllers that mesh well with the APC40 but also standalone? I'm not against the AxiomPro61. To be honest since I have completely isolated myself in the laptop I get more mileage out of the little oxygen8 sitting on my lap than anything else. Had been looking at the Akai series for a while, specifically the MPK61.
Has anyone used both somewhat extensively with opinions on real-world usability? At this point it really is pretty much narrowed down to AxiomPro61 vs MPK61. For all practical purposes they are more control than I possibly need, but I don't want to get one of the more barebones controllers because - like all of us in this gearlust world - I like "options."
thanks,
