AMD Mainboard recommendations?

Post by naburo » Fri Mar 11, 2011 8:25 am

I am in the need to replace my working PC.

I wanted to configure a PC around a Intel 1155 board, but after reading about serious storage problems, came to the conclusion that I could also use an AMD board.

However I have the prejudice that Intel boards are better for Musicproduction than AMD´s.
Therefore I need to know if anyone can recommend AMD mainboards vs. intel mainboards.

I would like to use a quad core CPU, USB 3.0 ports, PCIe 2.0, & Sata.

So talk me in or out of a AMD board.
Any advice is appreciated

but he's not using an USB interface.. he's got a RME digiface.

i'm running an AMD AM2+ board and an AM3 processor with a RME multiface 2 and i think it works great.

would probably be better with an AM3 board and DDR3 ram but here are my results last time i ran the test with my current config.

1. Ableton Live CPU Meter: 20-21%
2. Desktop: Custom Rackmount DAW with Asus M3A79-T Deluxe mobo
3. OS: Windows 7 Pro 64
4. Ableton Live version: 8.1.1
5. CPU Make, Model, and Speed: AMD Phenom II 955 overclocked to 3.61 GHz
6. Amount of RAM: 8 GB
7. Soundcard: RME HDSPe Multiface 2 and PCIe card with 3.08.2 drivers
8. Hard Disk Drive Speed: 10K rpm
9. Number of playback tracks: all 8

at 256 samples, meter read 22%
at 128 samples, meter read 23%
at 64 samples, meter read 27%
at 32 samples, meter read 35%

and 40 tracks at 256 samples read 83% with no crackles

Using AMD is a violation of your AbleCare terms and condittions.

You can do it, but your not allowed to post here and winge about the results afterwards.
Nothing to see here - move along!

GIGABYTE GA-790XT (rev 1.0)- I think there are newer versions of this board.
AMD Phenom II X4 955 Black Edition Socket AM3 3.2 GHz
Runs very well with both Firestudio Mobile Firewire & an ESI UGM96 USB interfaces.
Low latency and stable.
