group track individual effect return/send?

Well, i thumbed through the manual some and have spent some time trying different things in Live itself and I just can't figure out how to make the Return tracks work with individual tracks within 'groups' - for instance, if i put a reverb on a return track and have a drum kit grouped, how can i just send the snare track to the reverb? there are corresponding sends on the group track master fader (for lack of better terms) but it puts the effect across the entire group - i dont want reverb going to the entire kit. when i adjust the sends on the tracks within the group, nothing happens - no effect. anyone else?

nothing happens...no audible effect.
only when i turn up the send on the main group track fader - but then the effect is on everything in the group. i have tolerated this for awhile, getting by on just inserting a specific effect (like reverb) on the specific track but it isn't always ideal; i have found even the percentage notching by using the mix pot on the effect vst's to be too steep - i literally have dialed reverb mix settings down to 1% wishing there was a step between 0-1% because it was just a tad more reverb than i wanted. picky perhaps, but this seems like a simple mixing console routing function.

Are you sure your sends are activated ?

If they're "grey" then they are disabled.

Right click on the send and choose enable sends.

huh, i checked and yes - the sends are activated, the send text and box containing the numerical representation of the the amount of signal being sent is black (not grey). if i right click on them the 'disable sends' option is listed - so they must be activated. curiously, at one point i turned all the sends up on one track (sends a, b & c) and the volume on that track increased?! - how are the grouped track sends routed anyways? why would the track get louder? ugh!?

sorry, best i can do for a screen shot is take a pic - i have no fancy image freeze/capture software. you'll see the send (a) on the first track in the series of grouped tracks is turned all the way up to 0.0db. there is a reverb on the corresponding return track and it is enabled.

what group returns? where are they?...i see all the individual group sends ...instead of a pot it is a rectangular bar which goes from 'minus infinity' up to 0.0d.b. represented by an increased amount of the color orange --- three of them... on each track: a, b & c. where do they send to if not a return?...why are they there & what do they even do? - so far they seem to just make that track louder by maxing out all three - weird!

I thought perhaps the group track had its own set of Return tracks that might allow me to send reverb, for instance, to individual tracks within the grouped track and in varied amounts (seems like a fairly conventional ...even pedestrian requisite, right?). So i wondered if i needed to create separate return tracks (other than the usual ones just left of the master fader). I right clicked on the main Group track fader and sure enough - insert return track - so i did, but all it did was create a regular old return track just to the left of the master fader. When i put a reverb on it and adjusted the rectangular sends under any of the individual grouped tracks - (drum roll) - fizzle - Nothing. Only works on the MAIN group track send pot....slathering the entire kit with reverb - yuck.

Seriously? i am, by no means, deep into the live program - i know just enough to make some racket so i am still convinced it is user error...so please, someone, tell me what easy thing i need to do that will make me feel like a no talent ass-clown so i can put a reverb on a return and send different amounts of it to a grouped drum kit.

also, thanks for the tip on the screen capture software - much like donnie, i'm totally out of my element.

oh dang - i figured it out! - its all down in the drum rack - the small little s/r in the corner of the rack window!!! hit the 'r' (like a pirate) and then a little box widens, kinda small, but none the less, a box that says "return chain list"...i dragged a verb in there and adjusted a send and there it was!

If you wanna go a step further you can open the i/o for the tracks in your drum rack and assign of the returns of the drum rack to the returns for the projects...
