Need to press play/stop button twice on midi controller?

Post by Keithtron » Wed Mar 30, 2011 6:07 pm

Hi all,

I use an Axiom 49 with Live 8, and I've midi-mapped the play/stop buttons of the controller to the corresponding functions in Live. All worked well for a while, until 1 day the mapped assignments stopped working. I re-assigned them, and noticed that the controller was now passing different CC values when pressing the play/stop buttons. Weird.

In any case, the re-assignment worked for the most part. The only issue is that I now need to press the play/stop button twice on the Axiom in order for it to work. This is a real pain for gig performances, since I need to hit play and kick it off at a very precise moment.

Any idea what could be causing the double-press issue? Or the change in the midi CC values passed to Live from the Axiom?

Thanks in advance for any input!

Short answer: The CC's amount is alternating between two amounts with each press. If you change the amount to 127 on both ends, it will always listen for when you send that.

You have a few options otherwise. There are different types of ways to program buttons on an Axiom.

Another thing is that your original settings may have either been on a specific channel or preset on your Axiom. Since you may have changed presets, then all your controls/layout could have changed up. One of the presets allows 'control surface' support. This automatically maps the transport controls without actually having to map them manually :). There is a long description and lesson available somewhere in the Ableton website's pack download section (i think it goes way back to ableton 6).

Good luck!
