M-audio quattro
M-audio quattro
I'm looking for a decent soundcard for my notebook. I don't need 200 inputs or so: 2 will do. I like to have 2 or more channels out and I want midi. I can by a Quattro for a very cheap price.
Does anyone recommend me this one or is this really one to keep away from? I know the Quattro is EOL and I don;t think there will be a new update from M-audio for it, but I just need to get it to work on my p4 Acer XP SP1 notebook.
Please help me, cause i'm dubbing to long allready.

lol
yeah, the quattro is pretty finicky. stay away if you have another option.
it took me about 20 installs on my last attempt to get it running properly. I hear people have good luck with ASIO4ALL with it, but the bundled drivers suck.

I've been using a Quattro for a few years now. The drivers are a bit touchy to get installed, but one it's up it's as solid as a rock. Use it on my Sony laptop and my P4 workstation. If you just want good single channel audio I/O without MIDI - the Echo card may be a better way to go - it's far more portable for a laptop but won't work on a workstation [no PCMCIA slot]. If you want the multiple I/O, MIDI and the flexibility to use it on a laptop or workstation, the Quattro - especially at a firesale price - isn't a bad option. I run it on Windows 2000 Pro SP4.
All what was said about the Quattro in this thread is right: the driver on CD are useless, but the ones you can download are very good. The first series was MAC-only because there was a problem with some USB-ports on Windows PCs.
I have the Quattro since 2001 and use it on my iBook. With the newest divers it works very fine. But there are some newer USB-Interfaces from M-Audio, that can be better for you. The Quattro needs a seperate power-supply. Interfaces like the M-Audio Fast track gets power by the USB or Firewire-port. If you wants to be mobile with your Computer an interface without an external power-supply will be better.
If I had to choose again, I would buy a M-Audio Interface, because they have a good price, good quality and a good support. But I would buy Fast Track or Firewire Solo, because of the power supply.
greetings, claas
