Order of controls
Order of controls
Hi, newbie question here.
I would like to know how to change the order in which M4L interface controls appear in the Live automation.
I'm using the APC40 and have long suffered from the fact that there is no way of resetting device parameters to their original state at the push of a button.
Now I've come across the Covert Operators' Snapshot Morpher (better late than never), but when I try to use it with the APC (which automatically assigns the first 8 parameters of a selected device to 8 knobs), anything but the first 8 dials on the device are being automated.
Basically, I would like to make sure that 8 dials from the Snapshot Morpher will be seen by Live as the first 8 parameters of the device, so I can use it with the APC.
Thanks

Re: Order of controls
Technically, Snapshot Morpher should already do that. You should be able to control the first 8 knobs from the first bank. And the next 8 knobs from the second._Static_ wrote:Hi, newbie question here.

There will be an updated device soon (within the week or so), maybe you'll have better results with that.
For your purposes though, you might want to check out Kapture which is available from http://www.ableton.com/maxforlive

Thanks for your reply, and nice to hear from the maestro himself..
Fyi, this is the way the APC controls are mapped when I try to use them (just in case this might be helpful for the update):
1: Load Snapshot Number
2: Save Snapshot Number
3: Morph Number 1
4: Morph Number 2
5: Save on/off
6: Load on/off
7: First knob in top row
8: Second knob in top row
I'm on Live 8.2.1/ Max 5.1.3.
I will try Kapture, but have done some coding and will probably get back to it so it would be great to know how to be able to assign the order in which controls appear in Live. I had a look at the Inspector and the Parameters window but have found nothing conclusive. Is there another way, or is it just the order in which they are inserted (nightmare scenario)?
Re: Order of controls
In the parameters window, you'll notice a lot of zero's on the left. That is the order column._Static_ wrote:Hi Bjorn,hoffman2k wrote:

I ordered thos parameters from 1 to 16, so I'm not sure why you're getting that result.
Re: Order of controls
Btw. You should probably update Live and Max
Re: Order of controls
Yes doing this right now!hoffman2k wrote:Btw. You should probably update Live and Max

Ha, thanks for the tip. I managed to solve the problem by assigning numbers to all parameters in the Parameters window.hoffman2k wrote: In the parameters window, you'll notice a lot of zero's on the left. That is the order column.

In the version of Snapshot Morpher (1.0) that I've got, only the live.dials and Morph have numbers assigned to them, everything else is numbered 0. When I changed the '0'-s to ascending numbers following the already assigned ones, the first 8 dials locked to the APC - perfect.
Re: Order of controls
Weird. Glad you sorted it out.
Its curious that this has never been reported before. And I usually test these things with another MFL device to check the parameters.
Its either a bug or every parameter does actually need to be numbered. I'll have to some further testing here.
Thanks for the reports!

Now my preliminary success inspired me to dig deeper into the code. What I was looking to achieve was to be able to morph from any current state of the controls to a preset recalled with the Load button over a set period of time, rather than calling up the preset immediately. I've added a slider to adjust the time, and it all works but one thing is confusing me:
The pattrstorage help file mentions preset 0 can be used as a temporary slot for interpolation activities. I didn't manage to get this to work, instead I ended up using slot 32 as temp storage which isn't really tidy. Is there something I am doing wrong or does this have to do something with your code? Here's a link to my mod (I have reduced the number of dials to suit my APC use) - might be interesting for your patch too: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/2043066/APC%20S ... 201.1.amxd
Thanks for all the help so far!
Matthias
Re: Order of controls
...yes, always had this issue too. i have never been able to get the preset 0 slot working in a m4l device; only in a max standalone patch. i keep meaning to report it..._Static_ wrote:The pattrstorage help file mentions preset 0 can be used as a temporary slot for interpolation activities. anyone else?
