Hi All,
I'm getting slight but incredibly aggravating midi latency when I play standard Ableton Live patches (such as grand piano) from my Novation SLMK2 keyboard. This wasn't happening previously, but I can't isolate what was going on when it started. What are likely causes of Midi Latency? Changing the Live Audio Latency Buffer does impact keyboard latency, but even at very low latency levels (109 samples, for example) I can still feel the latency when playing.
It may be associated with a few other problems:
* My presonus firebox loses power periodically, with the blue light going to red, then I have to unplug and replug the firewire cable.
* My Waves Native Power Pack (Mac VST drivers) seems to cause instabilities in the DAW, with intermittent crashes; these may be coming from something else. Line 6 pod farm may cause some of these issues as well, but I haven't been able to isolate this.
* The latency became more noticable when I installed Superior Drummer (previously using EZ Drummer). It is possible that part of this experience of latency is that I am not used to playing with a "better drummer" but I think some of the latency is still from the midi-or-audio-settings end of things.
Since Midi Ports can impact this short of thing, I'm reproducing my midi ports table here (just the active ports):
Input: Podxt Track: On/Sync: Off/Remote: Off
Input: APC40 Input: On/off/on
Input: Automap Midi: On/off/on
Input: Automap Propellerhead: On/off/on
Input: Automap HUI: On/off/off
Output: APC40: On/off/on
My equipment is: iMac 2.8G core duo with 2 Gig RAM (upgradable to 4G), APC40, Novation SLMK2, Presonus Firebox. Ableton Live Suite 8.2.1. Reason 4, Waves Native Power Pack, EZ Drummer & Superior Drummer, & Line 6 Pod Farm.
Thanks for any help or thoughts.
