Just bought Live 8, Cannot see Tension/Electric/Colision etc
Just bought Live 8, Cannot see Tension/Electric/Colision etc
I can see these 6 things (Tension, Electric, Collision, Analog, Operator, Sampler) in my Preferences>Library tab, under installed Live Packs. I cannot see them anywhere in my Instrument list. I'm pretty new to Ableton but I have seen in web tutorials that they should appear on the same list as Drum Rack, Instrument Rack, External Instrument, Impulse, and Sampler. I installed from the download and overwrote my APC40 edition. I do see lots of new instruments in my Instrument rack like the Metal Mallets I was missing before (with the APC edition) so I know it did upgrade and install 'correctly'. I also see the name of the window has changed to 'Live 8' from 'Live 8 Akai APC40 Edition'.
I went through the autorization process with no problems, and also repaired my library thinking that might be the issue, but I still only see "Drum Rack, Instrument Rack, External Instrument, Impulse, and Sampler" in my "Instruments" Folder in the browser on the left.
I have also tried restarting the program multiple times.
Did I miss something or forget to do something essential here? Maybe this is a common problem or theres an additional step I must take? Maybe I'm looking in the wrong place?
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
New Ableton User

Live 8 does not come with the mentioned instruments. You ahve to get Suite for that.
One thing that does confuse me though is how you have "sampler" are you sure it's sampler? it should be "simpler" if you have Live 8.

did you buy Live 8? or Suite? because you gotta buy suite to get anything other than what you listed, except you might have meant simpler, since sampler is also part of the suite package. This sounds like this misunderstanding is at the root of your problem.

Thanks guys you're right on both accounts. I did mean Simpler (not Sampler) and I completely misunderstood what package I was purchasing. My heart just sank.

I would contact Ableotn. If you have the money you could just upgrade to suite. it's practically the same price.Manbruns wrote:Thanks guys you're right on both accounts. I did mean Simpler (not Sampler) and I completely misunderstood what package I was purchasing. My heart just sank.

I am way happy w ableton for the most part but i sort of feel like im getting nickled and dimed on some of the bells and whistles for dropping a decent amount on a program such as live. I cant even install some of the racks that are on this site wo operator. can anyone point me in the direction for some good VST's or plugins that will work w live to give me some of the functionality of virtual synth modules like electric or analog ??? Not really bitching ,,, just sayin.
Re: Just bought Live 8, Cannot see Tension/Electric/Colision etc
haha, i know what you mean. You ahve to understand, Ableton is one of the more expensive DAWs around because unlike some companies, Ableton doesn't sell any hardware and so make all their profit off of Live. Anyways, the absolute best value for money synth packages would be Native Instruments Komplete 7. Pretty sure no one can argue with that.amonaco wrote:I am way happy w ableton for the most part but i sort of feel like im getting nickled and dimed on some of the bells and whistles for dropping a decent amount on a program such as live. cool thanks man.

Hey, i have the same problem but i'm wondering why the program says i downloaded operator, analog etc when they don't give it to you? can anyone shed light on this?
Re: Just bought Live 8, Cannot see Tension/Electric/Colision etc
you have the files in your computer. you're just not authorized to use them. Actually you are using them in a way. but it's much more limited. Some of the audio effects racks have the synths built in.ltlwezboi wrote:Hey, i have the same problem but i'm wondering why the program says i downloaded operator, analog etc when they don't give it to you? can anyone shed light on this?

Oh i see. I posted a topic about this but after looking up the NI vst you just posted, i was wondering if there is a less expensive VST by NI or anyone else that is god that runs less than $300?
Re: Just bought Live 8, Cannot see Tension/Electric/Colision etc
Well pretty much all the NI synths are under $300. But unless you're really not going to use any but 1 i'd say save up a bit more and get the komplete package. it's too good of a deal.ltlwezboi wrote:Oh i see. i'm not too knowledgable in the synth area but the zebra synth is very popular and under $300
Re: Just bought Live 8, Cannot see Tension/Electric/Colision etc
I hate to be twisting this topic to something different, but since i'm a noob.. are these synths the same thing as what operator is?
nd whats the diff between an instrument, vst, and plugin ?

simple answer:ltlwezboi wrote:I hate to be twisting this topic to something different, but since i'm a noob.. are these synths the same thing as what operator is?

no, operator is a fm synth. Which it's different from how it generates its sounds. FM8 from native instruments in a more powerful version of a fm synthesizer. There are honestly a lot of different types. I'm sorry my post isn't really going to cut it.
Re: Just bought Live 8, Cannot see Tension/Electric/Colision etc
after looking into Komplete. It looks like a much more fufilling package than what you get w the suite upgrade as far as instrument packages ect. not knocking suite at all because it looks cool but komplete looks pretty sick
