MIDI drum pad latency/delay

I'm new to MIDI and bought my first controller (eBay) MPD 32

When I try to drum, it doesn't always trigger. The MIDI signal is showing on the MPD display and on the PC screen.

If I hit the pad slightly off-time/beat it won't trigger.
