Hello Forum,
I just bought the excellent Korg Legacy collection with dedicated MS-20 controller and I have run into an issue that I hope, rather pray someone will be able to help me with.
OK, here's the deal,
I want to be able to write a midi sequence and have my Korg VST play the sequence back. No problem, but I also have a dedicated controller for the korg that allows me to treat it like a hardware synth. However, while the sequence is playing in auto mode (under monitor) I cant use the controller. To use the controller I have to go into Monitor On mode but then I cabt here my midi sequence. This is actually a huge problem for me when I use any of my softsynths. Is there a way around this? I know I can go into the other screen and draw envelopes to have the parameters change but this takes away from real time experimintation. Please tell me how to have real time control while the sequencer sends the pattern to the synths.
Thanks
Midi Control with monitor off.

Yes Adam, but he pointed out a big (imo) flaw in Live's way to deal with midi. You cannot play over a recorded clip. This is sometimnes useful when you want to overdub your own track. I always end up opening a new track and play through it on the same VST or whatever. I'd be great to be able to monitor over recorded midi tracks.
are you sure you don't have to record? this is the reason i don't use vsti's in live, the couple times i played around with it, i set up midi controllers for all the virtual knobs on the synth, and unless i was in record mode i couldn't tweak at all, and when in record mode, it DOES record every move, i just tested this and there is no way i could find to not have a MIDI clip recording your moves in auto mode with record engaged...it is green when the sequencer isn't playing, but turns red as soon as you press play....AdamJay wrote:if you activate record mode (yet you do not have to record) you can use your controller on a channel that is being played back, so long as Monitor is set to "Auto"
.
am i missing something?
EDIT yes i was, take overdub button off.....duh, well thats what good about other people explaining things to you, makes you check, just should have done it before posting
