Clip Envelope Parameter Overide

Post by kclarkmusic » Wed Jun 08, 2011 3:52 am

Hello,

I find it generally unintuitive that in order to utilize a Clip Envelope to control a parameter, that the parameter need to be placed at 100% in order for the Clip Envelope to work. I think it would be much more intuitive if the Clip Envelope just overrode the current parameter setting (like automation lanes)

I feel like the current setup dictates that you have to either "perform" the modulations, or write them in Clip Envelopes, but not both. Since you have to place the parameter at 100% for the envelope to function correctly, then that means for every clip that dose not utilize the clip envelope to modulate a parameter, you have to manually set each envelope to 0% which adds a lot of time to pre production.

If the Clip Envelopes behaved more like an automation lane envelope, then I could perform a modulation, return the parameter to 0 or whatever my default was, and then if I wanted to write a crazier modulation in a clip envelope, or just to free up my hands, I could use the clip envelope and expect it to work immediately.

I realize that the current default setting for any parameter's Clip Envelope is 100%, but if you changed that default to 0%, and programed it so that the Clip Envelope overrides the current parameter setting, then this would not only be more intuitive, but it would allow you to both utilize clip envelopes, and perform manual modulation. (In order for this to work, Live would also have to maintain the "absence of clip envelope information" as "no effect" so it wouldn't reset the parameter setting to 0% when you launch a clip that has no clip envelope information.

Anyone else feel me on this?
