'unAbleto live' Looper/support still useless a year later!
I didnt want to post a hate mesage but Ive reached my patience limit!
I sent ableton a video of looper freaking out on me again.
basically It shows looper close up, I start playing my gtr into looper punch out of the loop and it starts playing it back BUT then jumps to another point in the loop (visually in the looper) and then plays back nothing, then back to the beginning to play back a portion of the loop and then nothing again. Its done this a bunch of times, Ive used it LOTS with all different settings.
It does a bunch of other wacky but equally useless stuff too, I emailed support and their reply was 'we have never seen looper do that before' and no other response over a month later.
pretty unprofessional, guess thats why they dont call it 'ableton pro'
SO much potential that I cant use for gigs as its just SO un reliable.
BOO ableton, I suggest a more appropriate name change 'unAbleto Live'

"UnstABLETON" is what I call them. Crashed on me last night just trying to automate Operator in the simplest and most straight forward of ways. I don't give a damn what ANY of the fan boys and girls state to be the case, Live is definitely NOT stable enough to do anything serious "live performance" with at this point, other than audio play back. Mobius http://www.circularlabs.com/ is the way to go with respect to PC/MAC based looping and it's FREE. Amazing what happens when a company that specializes in a specific type of esoteric music software actually DOES stick with their basic product and develop that product to it's STABLE potential. It is absolutely stable and works flawlessly with ease for most, although I just picked up a 2880 a few days ago because my RC-50 took a dump. I hated that BOSS thing so much that it was the perfect excuse for NOT fixing it, but rather replacing it with the Electro-Harmonix unit w/foot switch.
You are RIGHT. Ableton can no longer be considered a live performance tool, or even a Studio DAW for that matter, by myself and MANY others because of it's tendency to introduce a TON of audio artifacts and CRASH at ANYTIME for what seems like an infinite number of reasons.
It's still an EXCELLENT arrangement and improvisational "sketch" tool, and a decent sequencer, but that's it. It's just not practical at this point. Maybe Ableton should leave the software real estate market alone eh? We've all heard the old saying "Get your own house in order FIRST." Just saying...

ovorigin - could you please re-send us the .als file of the set with the issue that you mentioned in your last mail to tech support about this? We did not receive the attachment last time.
zee verkawound - as you have no licenses on your forum account, I can't see whether you've reported anything to us in the past. We'd like to help you sort out any issues that you're having; please get in touch with tech support from the address on which you have your license: http://www.ableton.com/support

Looper has never worked for me. Simply too clicky. Hope you get your issue taken care of. Ableton have a help line also, I called the U.S. one once and they were quite helpful. Good luck.
I have a few hardware loopers, a Line 6 DL 4, a Digidesign JamMan (saves), and an E.H. 2880 (4 track, back up to computer) w/ foot switch. I really like the 2880, the foot switch is perfectly responsive, it's the best looper I've tried. Used to hear good things about a couple of discontinued models, I think they were called Boomerang and Repeater.
Contact Ableton about these issues and make sure to send in crash reports. Whenever I have crashes, it's things like dragging a 3rd party VST/AU to a track during playback. Live shouldn't crash just automating Operator, that ain't good. Sometimes it's the computer. I have my old computer for Internet, and only download updates etc. on my new one. Just a thought.

Right now, somewhere in out the darkest reaches of the complainiverse, 3phase is kicking himself he didn't think of "unstableton".

David addressed it didn't he?
they hadn't got the attachment on the mail sent, so a request to resend the file was the outcome.

No that's not what I meant, originally OP whined how inconvenient it is to move projects from one HD to other, because saving doesn't automatically attach all the files used in the project in to the project folder. Then I pointed out, that "collect and save" will do the job. Minutes later he changed the title and the topic of this thread into the present one. Hence the irrational answer and quote I made in second post of this thread.Angstrom wrote:David addressed it didn't he?

Too funny! Almost as funny as Ableton being considered a legitimate live performance tool. Almost as funny as Ableton NEEDING me to test their (of that's right, it was me that was dumb enough to get involved to begin with, doh!)product.
You are RIGHT my old Planet Dog buddy, HILARIOUS!!!
Re: 'unAbleto live' Looper/support still useless a year later!
^ so do you have a license or not?
if you don't, then why do you expect - the reach around?

Re: how to save a self contained copy of ONLY the set and files?
I did say 'all' so of course I did but it seems for some reason your need to have the file manager open on the right column for the options to do this which never came up for me in the past, which is lame and just shouldnt be able to happen. But hey they released the looper so enough said.LeifonMars wrote:Bet you didn't try "collect and save".ovorigin wrote:Ive tried All the save commands

I looked at sooperlooper but couldnt get it working and the forum for it is dead. I have downloaded mobius but havent played with it enough other than to be deeply offended by its interface, SOOO ugly in typical windows fashion, I have wondered tho if its really any good for syncing with abletons looper, I know it reads tempo but it cant be triggered like abletons looper can it?
sure I can resend it, pity you didnt ask me this when u received it all that time ago, or in my emails sinceAbleton_David wrote:ovorigin - could you please re-send us the .als file of the set with the issue that you mentioned in your last mail to tech support about this? The sad part and the reason we are all still here is there is nothing else to compete with ableton in the live audio department which is why they can still get away with selling software with so many problems AND still be in business.zee verkawound wrote:Too funny! ovorigin - the support representative that you corresponded with asked for you to re-send the file after it didn't show up the first time. Perhaps check your spam filter to make sure that it didn't accidentally get separated?
