crash crash CRASH!!!!

Post by toneroll » Tue Feb 08, 2005 3:29 pm

all this 4.1 seems to be doing is crashing , it is the most unstable of any release so far.!!! why is this? coz of that stupid F!"£$£$%£%^$%^^ing operator?

sometimes while consolidating a small clip:

a serious program error blah blah blah

sometimes when reversing a clip:

a serious program error blah blah blah

and last night i got a set going for a few hours , saved it came back after a couple of hours and tried to load the set guess what happened?????

a serious program error blah blah blah
there used to be a well cheesy "sig." here

Hi toneroll,

I'm sorry for the problems but to find the reason for them we need much more details about these crashes and the involved hardware.

So at first, what is your computer setup?
Is anyone of the crashes you mentioned reproducible? If yes, what are the steps?

regards,
Alex

This is the same kind of problem I have all the time with 4 . I haven't even bothered with the newest one because as far as I can see it's the whole VST thing that isn't working properly and I've got no need for Operator.

Every time I use a VST (usually a VSTi) in 4, at some point the program will screw up with the usual 'Serious blahblah' errors which always also results in a file that can not be loaded back into Live..and, funiliy enough, even incremental backups will not load back in after that point in some instances (I've found that to be the case with Kontakt - if you put everything into a different folder and then tell it to ignore when it can't find the correct samples to load you can load and recover your file). Other VSTs that crash and corrupt the program have been VStation, Exciton and various free ones. Almost every time an instance of a VST is used in Live (and I have tried on 2 different machine configurations), at some point the result will be loss of work.
Deleting history and preference files had no effect.

You can blame the VST standard as much as you like but I've never experienced this kind of instability with either Cubase or Logic and it's a crying shame because the process of composing in Ableton is the fastest I've ever experienced and the audio side of Live using Live's own plugins is as solid as a rock.....so it's back to using 3 on a semi permanent basis.

again... they can do nothing without specific info on your rig. if you're going to post to this forum about bugs, instead of contacting support, at least post your specs and gear.

I don't think specs and gear are relevent in this case - I've tried it on 3 different systems (2 of my own 1 of someone elses) all set up differently, different hardware and software combinations. The result is always the same, crashes, files that won't load and lost work

Hi nunrgguy,

Sorry but I totally disagree.
I've tried it on 3 different systems (2 of my own 1 of someone elses)
If every Live user would have this experience too we would never have any user.

But however I just can you ask to give us more information about what you did, on which kind of computer, with which software, how and when it crashed. Otherwise we have no chance to handle the problems you have with Live.

regards,
Alex

C'mon guys... No specif.=no solutions. I may say I'm having no problems on my PB G4 1Gb, 1Gb RAM, OS X 10.3.8, FW410, LaCie HD2 120gb, Evolution keyboard MK249C, Tassman 4, Lounge LIzard 2, Ultra Analog 1, Pluggo 3.5, Reason 2.5, Plogue Bidule 0.8b04, Microtonic, and some freebies. As I said before... no problems here at all, maybe with any free one... but not important... If you use legal updated stuff the problems are reduced... and they (abes or vst's developers) can help U.
Cheers.

I've just lost 4 days of hard work on a remix that needs to be delivered today ! Ouch. I couldn't open the song file after a crash when I tried to render the final version of the remix. Damn damn damn.

But I'm really posting to say that there's such a thing as a free LEGAL plug in. In fact there are lots of very good and interesting ones that I like to use. ALL my software it legit as I am a pro user but I've still lost all my f####ing work. Bugger.

Well, it seems I've just lost the entirety of my post.

Just wanted to let the Ableton guys know. If we are faced with a login again request after typing a message reply and attempting a preview, all the info goes away.

Other users may find that frustrating. I simply report it. I don't have time to re-create it. Next time I will save a copy before I make a move.

Not that I should have to do that of course !

Thanks,

You don't want to report that, you might get accused of having a stolen computer.
