Live Not Beatmapping

Post by neonbunny » Wed Feb 09, 2005 4:24 am

So i'm still fairly new to Live, and kind of feel silly asking this. But...

Live is bringing in every track at 120 bpm (original), and not mapping the tempo of anything correctly. I have 3 books on live, and they all say "Live will automatically map the tempo of every track when imported". But even with the most simple repetative techno beat, it still can't get one marker in the right place.

Maybe a setting or preference somewhere is set to not beatmap anything?

Ok, so I deleted my preferences, no help.

Every track I bring in always has the "original tempo" set for whatever the overall tempo at the time is set for.

Warping

Post by glenclayton » Wed Feb 09, 2005 10:33 am

To get the tempo of a track you have to use warping (telling Live where the beats fall) - Live cannot work out the BPM of a track automatically.

If you search the forumns for advice on Warping you should get what you need - especially Chris Cowies posts on the subject.

Most electronic dance music like techo is fairly easy to warp and shouldn't take you too long, once you get the knack.

I guess I thought it would be easier. I'm used to using Acid, and for some reason thought that Live would beatmap as well...
