Cynthia Macintosh new way into analog modular synthesis

Post by Boxerfresse » Wed Feb 09, 2005 8:50 am

have a look what these guys have done

Of course we couldn't resist the temptation to package these beauties into something totally new for the analog modular synthesis community, and here it is, our latest special order creation...The Cynthia Macintosh
The combination of Mac minis with our new touch-screen controlled liquid crystal color video monitors allows a whole new level of integration between worlds of synthesis!
You can go from your analog modular oscillators and filters - into digital audio effects plug-ins, and then right back to analog, and if you like the results can be recorded right there in your rig - using your favorite digital audio workstation software!
You can even use multiple Mac minis in your system side by side if you like! (Think of the zillions of sound files and play lists you can have right at your fingertips as you patch! The sequencing
possibilities are amazing...

Well

that could be potentially extremely sick.

If they could somehow also make the analog patching digitally controlled, and have digital control (e.g. via OSC?) of all analog parameters, hmmm...
or just record everything in!

Meh. I'm a big fan of modular synths. And cynthia has a lot of VERY interesting modules. But i don't understand this. Why does the computer have to be integrated into the synth?? It doesn't seem to have any advantage over having the computer seperate with a midi to CV converter...

It's not meant for sequencing that's why - patch it up to a swag of granular procesing devices and repatch that back throught the entire modular signal network etc etc .....
It's like a combined dsp/modular/hd unit .
My aren't the wings of butterflies beautiful and do they not make wonderful perturbations.....

Uhhhh, ok, then what's the advantage over having the computer seperate with an audio interface??
