Hi everyone. I'm having this problem where i am working on a song, everything is going fine, in this case i was removing parts then my cpu load eventually went up to the point where the audio was breaking down hard. So i restarted my machine and once again everything is playing smoothly but after a bit, once again in this case i was finding ways to cut down my cpu load then within a minute or so the same thing happened. Has this happened to any of you? is it possible that my cpu is running too hot? I am running a macbook pro the may 2009 edition 2.53 core 2 duo with 8 gigs of ram. Thanks for any help i receive!

Gradual CPU load
Re: Gradual CPU load
How many VST/AU tracks do you have running simultaneously? I get what you describe when I have more than 10 virtual instruments clamoring on, or just 3-4 instances of Massive or Sylenth along with a few audio tracks fired up and rolling. I'm on a mid2007 2.13ghz c2d MacBook w/ 2gb ram.
If you don't have many tracks in your project, then you might want to check your spotlight and/or time machine settings: they might be trying to index your shit while you're working which would result in overloading your CPU. Try firing up activity monitor next time you start working, and when your CPU nosedives take note which process is responsible. If it's live, then your problem is most likely too many instruments (try freezing/flattening to save CPU) or too small an audio buffer. If it's something else, well tell that bastard, "shut the f*ck up! I'm working here!"

Haha you made my laugh a bit. I've been going at my project again today and i've since added an analog synth and an operator to my project, and it runs fine. I wonder what the heck is really going on.... Thanks for pointing out the activity monitor though, really helpful to see what's goin on with my cpu.
