need help setting up BX5a monitors to my mac, please help!?

Post by bencasalino » Thu Jul 07, 2011 11:07 pm

ok my setup is simple the BX5a monitors hooked up to a M-box. The M-box is showing up on fine, i can change the inputs and outputs. I just need to know what to do in abelton to get it to recognize my speakers and not make it come out through my macs speakers, more specifically what setting do i need to change in the live preferences? Any help would be great im going crazy trying to figure this out, thanks. : )

In preferences, under audio, all you should need to do is select your mbox under Audio Output Device, and select whatever outputs your speakers are plugged into on the "Master Out" on your master channel strip in session view. As a sidenote, Ableton will never recognize your, or any speakers, because all it is doing is sending an audio signal to the output of your choosing.

I have this exact set-up.
Go to Live>Preferences>Audio> In the Audio Device section (top) choose your MBOX as Audio Input and Output Device.

hmm, what you both said makes sense.

My audio input and output device is set to the MBOX.
Then on my master channel the "master out" says 1/2.

When i play a clip im only getting audio out of my reg speakers not my monitors.

I know my mbox/Bx5a's are hooked up correctly (and volume knobs on mbox/monitors are on) , but im still not getting sound from them.

Any ideas on fixing this are so greatly appreciated, im about ready to give up.

I'm not sure what model MBOX you have but you need at least 3 or 4 outputs to be able to cue w/ headphones.
I use an M Audio Fast Track Pro and it has 4 Outputs.

1/2 = Speakers
3/4 = Headphones

If you don't have a 3/4 option under master/cue out then you may not have enough outputs on the MBOX.
Look up your MBOX model and see how many outputs it has.

ok the Mbox i have is, Avid 9900-37246-00 Mbox 2 Audio Interface

below is a link that shows a pic of the front and back

http://www.google.com/products/catalog? ... CFoQ8wIwAQ

im sort of a noob at this, i had the monitors running through this mbox when i was was using garageband before so i know they do work with my mbox. The drop down options under my master output channel are just 1 and 2.

ah, clearly this was the step we all intuitively sorted out and forgot to mention here, sorry about that.
at around 6.5 minutes in, this vid explains these parameters http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5dZI4K_EmWE
You probably want those settings on if that's how you're getting your speakers to work, it certainly isn't going to hurt.
