live NEVER saves the settings on fx plugins and synths.. When I tweak a synth, find a nice sound and then save the project I lose all settings.
Basically I need to do everything again from ZERO each time I open ableton.
It only retains the settings for live's internal instruments and FX.
Anybody out there have an idea how to fix this???

Well.......what Plug-Ins are you using?
You need to save your settings as a preset in your respective synth/plug-in. Different plug-ins use different file types.
I use Massive and when I make a sound I like I save it as a preset. In Massive it saves as a .ksd file.
Keep all your presets for each plug-in in it's own folder. Ya know?
