firepod laptop pairing

First I want to thank this forum for over a year of generous help and advice.

I'm upgrading from an hp pavillion using usb, to a firewire setup. I know i'm kind of doing things backwards, but I bought a presonus firepod, and now I'm buying a new laptop. My budget is 700 usd AT MOST (I know I know, but im a student). I dont care about anything accept for its ability to run ableton as smoothly as possible, WITH the presonus. Any one have experience wtih this pairing, I know it probably wont have firewire ports, so I'm going to have to buy one. I'm looking at a Viao but ive heard that its chipset is incompatable with the firepod. any advice?

Hey bro, from what Ive read you wont have much luck with new laptops having firewire. Unless you go the macbook pro route, or get a custom made laptop.

Best bet imo is to get one of those or find an old laptop with a TI chipset.

Sorry I cant give you much more advice.
