How to create options/different directions in a live set?

Hi folks, I am quite new to performing with ableton but in short I use the session view to trigger, manipulate and remix loops of my own productions and remixes. I'm know wondering though how I could build in options or different directions in the set that I could take to suit the mood of the crowd. My set consists of 8 tracks with clips that I launch from an APC sometimes individually, sometimes a few at a time but mainly in whole scenes. My initial thought was to have a duplicate of the 8 tracks (so 16 in total) with alternate versions of tunes off to the side that I could page across to with the APC if I felt the need or just carry on from top to bottom in the set. Something like this...

The problem with this setup is without having the other 8 channels muted I wouldn't be able to trigger whole scenes anymore without triggering all 16 tracks at once. I also wouldn't be able to trigger clips and deactivate the previous clips on that track at the same time as I would be moving between tracks.

Does anyone else have methods they use to create options in a set?

Is there away to have hidden scenes or collapsed scenes that you can pull up? I don't really want to have different options or versions of tracks scattered in amongst the same set cos I think that would be confusing and lead to mistakes/dropping the wrong thing.

I hope this makes sense to someone! haha

Cheers

No, but maybe you could make better use of clip colours to differentiate between "route a" and "route b"...?

It's hard to tell from your screenshot, but it seems like you're not really using the colours in any logical way.

Just a thought anyway.

If you use a double set of tracks, but keep the clips arranged so that there are clips either on the left half or on the right half but not both, then you don't need to mute/unmute tracks. Carefully placed stop buttons on the other half let you turn off certain clips when you fire new ones.

Hey nice one! I think that might be the answer, I just tried that out. I created another 8 tracks which are assigned to B on the crossfader and the original 8 to A so when I wanna switch path I just flick the crossfader. Very cool!

Thanks!
