1 midi 'note on' to trigger sequence. Is it possible?
hi,
anyone have any idea if this is possible?
I want to be able to play 1 midi 'note on' (in my case, triggered from a midi bass drum) and have this trigger a sequence of pre-defined notes each time I hit the bass drum. A bit like repeatedly playing one key on a keyboard, and having the note change to a pre defined sequence.
I know I could get interesting results using the 'random effect' in live, this would be great for experimentations, but to try and use specify notes for a full song for example...??
Can this be achieved in live, Is there any software compatible with live that does this, or any workarounds that anyone knows?
I know the Roland TD10 drum module has this facility, you play the bass drum, and a pre defined bass line is played for ever bass drum note, but I ain't got one, nor the cash. any less expensive solutions or does it go in the wishlist for the next version..
cheers

thanks Hoffman but I don't think it will work for my needs. 1 key can trigger the midi clip, and will play the full sequence, but I would like it to play each individual note of the sequence, 1 at at a time.
(You did mean the midi mapping switch on the top right of the screen didn't you?) or is there a midi learn function in live that I am not aware of?
best

No, there is only the one midi mapping functionpolemans wrote:thanks Hoffman but I don't think it will work for my needs. 1 key can trigger the midi clip, and will play the full sequence, but I would like it to play each individual note of the sequence, 1 at at a time.

You could set the clips so that they don't loop. they will play the note or sequence you want. Triggered by the note you assigned in the midi mapping mode.
Ah it's not about several sample's and sequences mapped to various notes. I see.
There is a way though i think. Unless i'm thinking of something else.
Try this file. You can trigger the sounds with the q's'd'f keys on your computer keyboard.

Mr Hoffman,
thanks mucho for trying, I tried the file but its still not it. I need to trigger a different note each time, by hitting only one key, in your file I need to hit 4 keys (q,s,d,f) for each different note/sound.
Peeddrroo,
thanks, I dont own Kontakt but will seee if there is a demo available, maybe this could be za way around it.. could be expensive though.
anyone think of any other ideas? max/msp patches maybe? any max programmers out there.
looks like it needs to go into the wishlist....

Use the file i gave you. and set up the sequence you want scene by scene. Then copy it over and over and.....
Now select the first scene you will only need to hit the "return" key to trigger them one by one.
(this is assuming that the options for triggering scene's are set up to go to the next scene when triggered)
The only thing this method lacks is velocity sensitivity. But you could emulate that with the velocity plugin in realtime. Or just edit the velocity's afterwards.

wow...it works... fantastic workaround.... thanks.
the only problem I'm going to have is for instance: if I program 1 song, it may need upwards of 512 scenes per song, (thats presuming 16 bars x 8 using a 4 note sequence per bar), plus all the notes will have to be sequenced individually in a seperate clip window.....this could take me some time........hmmm maybe i could use 'follow actions' to seperate verses choruses etc..???
big respect to hoffman....

you can also use my program controlAid to do this. It has the advantages of allowing you to use velocity, and will also automatically loop back to the first note once you've triggered all the notes in your sequence. Plus it allows you to use more than one sequence in this manner, you could have one MIDI note step through one sequence, another MIDI note step through a different one ad nauseum.
but you would still have to map each note of the sequence to a different clip... the feature I'm talking about is called "clipFillMode". It works by automatically incrementing a provided note when it is repeated. So the second time C2 is played it is converted to C#2, the third time it becomes D2 etc. Assuming you map your the notes in your sequence to be triggered by incremental midi notes, clipFillMode will trigger them in order. You can also specify how many notes clipFill should increment, when it reaches this it triggers the original note and begins incrementing all over again.
You can assign a different MIDI note to turn clipFillMode on and off. Let me know if you have questions. - Charlie

Re: 1 midi 'note on' to trigger sequence. Is it possible?
So I can see that triggering a clip is possible from one midi 'note on'.
Is it possible to trigger a clip be playing a sequence?
For example could I play the set of notes in a certain order/way to start another clip?
