Crackling when recording audio

hi all i got live lite 8.2 with a line6 xu2 interface an when i record guitars i get a Crackling when recording.this also appears on playback and when i convert to audio wav it does the same unless i minimise the package when recording or minimise the media player.it not cables or anytghin as i use high quality lava cables if any one could help would be really appreciated thanks in advance

What soundcard buffer size/ latency are you using. It sounds like you may need to increase it.

buffer size is 512 samples input latency is 14.8ms output 29.7ms overall latency 44.5

That should be plenty. There is definitely a bottle neck specific to your set up, but there are so many possibilities. Without knowing exactly what you are doing and what your set up is like it's just guess work.

Maybe Ableton Support can help you out with it.

hi im using windows vista it seems to have got worse in the last few days

I usse an MAudio FastTrack Pro. Its reasonable, but one of its major downflaws is crackling, or more like pops. It might be different to your problem, but mine is caused by fluctuations in USB power. So when the power dynamically shifts, such as allowing the USB port to go to sleep, it results in a pop.

The solution was so disable all 'Allow this device to sleep' in device manager for USB ports owned by the hub the device is plugged into, ensure the port the device is plugged into is getting its own power supply and disabling a stack of BIOS settings relating to power/energy saving, dynamic power optiosn, clocking (over or under) etc.

If that sounds right, I'll explain a bit more as that explanation probably was way too broad, but let me know. :)
