Novation Launchpad showing up, BUT in red

From time to time I cannot get my Launchpad to work in Live. I can see the Launchpad as a control surface in the preferences menu, however under input/output, the Launchpad is shown in red. The unit does not light up or respond. There is also no "clip box" shown which outlines what clips are being shown on the Launchpad.

Has anyone run in to this? What does the red writing mean?

That happens with my Kaoss Pad when it is unplugged. I think it means you've set up that connection, but there isn't communication between the devices, does it happen after your computer has gone to sleep or something? does unplugging and replugging in the launchpad fix it? Just some thoughts!

The funny thing is that it is connected!!! In fact the connections were not touched from the last time I used the program/devices. Anyways, I found a solution.

By disconnecting my Remote SL (MIDI keyboard), rebooting Live, Live then saw the Launchpad. Then I reconnected the Remote SL and Live loaded the keyboard. Everything works.

This glitch seems to be software related. Does anyone know why this type of workaround is required? Is there any significance to what sequence you place your control surfaces? Should I move the Launchpad up in the sequence?
