auto bpm device
auto bpm device
Does anyone know of a device, hardware or software that will listen to an audio signal and estimate the bpm?
If it was a hardware box I'd need to then get this into a computer as a midi clock signal or something
cheers

Tapping isn't accurate enough for you? Personally I'd trust my tapping than a BPM... depending on the type of song.
I don't know of an external device that does it, but there's plenty of software solutions that take an MP3 and estimate it. Not sure about streamed though...

Re: auto bpm device
Don't a lot of DJ mixers do that automatically these days?

Kaoss pad 3 has it and it works good depending of your audio source

Cheers for the suggestions
I actually need this functionality for the visuals software I made for an event venue. I've already built tap tempo functionality into it, but it's nice to have an automatic option too. There used to be one available in the software I use, but it was removed for licensing reasons.
That 'InTime' software looks like it just tracks midi input.
KP3 could work, if can find one to borrow. Bit overkill to buy just for bpm detection!

The Soundbite Micro is very good - certainly the better choice (re lock accuracy) over a KP3.
No BPM readout though, if that's what you need, but good for MIDI sync.

A Great way to figure BPMs is download Pioneer's Rekordbox software for the new CDJ 2000s. Its free on there website, it may be time consuming because you have to do one song at a time, but drag the song in to where it plays in the software and it will give you the correct BPM everytime. Best Method, very accurate.
