Groove Pool Weirdness - Why Enevelopes?

Post by contakt321 » Fri Aug 19, 2011 8:32 pm

I just started playing with the Groove function again and I am getting something strange going on with Groove.

For example when I use the following two settings (I haven't tested them all, just these two)
SP1200 54
SP1200 58

After I apply the Groove, I am seeing really weird volume envelopes on my clips.

WHY?

Is this a glitch? Is this intentional?

I don't understand why it would be intentional, if for these two templates their intention is to emulate the SP1200 on 54% and 58% swing, it should shift the notes, I don't understand why it would affect the volume (b/c it doesn't on the real SP1200)

Anyone have any insight onto this?

Set velocity setting of the groove to zero and your problem is solved.

Awesome, I will try that.

But...

Even still...

My other question:

if their intention is to emulate the SP1200 on 54% and 58% swing, why would it affect the volume (b/c it doesn't on the real SP1200)?

I suppose that the velocity 'template' was added as a bonus.
That way you can get more human feel even when you program the patterns in step sequencer style with fixed velocities.

I always zero the setting because I rather patterns myself and just add some (~50%) quantization and timing to tighten up the groove so that it still sounds human.

Then why make it an SP1200 template?

It doesn't make sense...

In reality, who cares :)

Thanks for the info everyone.
