Annoying beep/bell sound when pressing the play button
So I have this really annoying problem that I'm trying to solve since forever now. When I press the play button (or space) in Ableton Live 8.1.3, a high pitched bell/vibraphone plays along with the music and everything. And no, its not the metronome, its just one short sound when i press the button.
I have some shitty soundcard which I'm using with ASIO, but it doesnt matter because when I use FL Studio, there's no annoying beep sound. I have searched the problem in 100 ways on google, but I couldnt find anything about this. I have a lot of friends who use Live, but none of them have this problem and none of them know the solution.
Please help, because I'm considering starting to use Cubase because of this fucking pity problem that I cant solve since so much time now. This beep sound is really annoying, I mean really really really annoying. I tried to make a video about it and upload it to youtube just to show you, but it said that the soundcard is already in use (by Ableton Live), so there was no sound in the video I made with the screencapturer.
Thank You
Ps: if I need to add more information abou my system, then please ask.

Are you sure that it isn't feedback? Check your in/out on all of your audio channels. Set them to 'none'.

Does this happen on a new, empty default Live set? Do you see anything on the meters when you press play?
Re: Annoying beep/bell sound when pressing the play button
maybe you have your space bar mapped??

where can i do that? in preferences/audio/? coz there i can only set which driver and which channels i want to use. and there is a button called 'driver setup' which takes me to the ASIO window, where i cant change nearly anything.yur2die4 wrote:Are you sure that it isn't feedback? Re: Annoying beep/bell sound when pressing the play button
and the funniest of all is that when i turn off the audio of Ableton (so there is no audio driver set, so there shouldnt be any sound), this beep sound is still there. explain that
Re: Annoying beep/bell sound when pressing the play button
That would probably mean that the beep isn't coming from Ableton Live and is just ones of the Windows system sounds.
Go into the windows control panel and find where you can change system sounds. Select one and then press the play (or test) button and see if it's one of those sounds. It's probably Default Beep or Critical Stop.

Unfortunately not. I turned off all the windows sounds as you said and i looked for it in windows/media folder. it seems like its not a system sound. That would probably mean that the beep isn't coming from Ableton Live and is just ones of the Windows system sounds.

it sounds like you know what that means...retekpatkany wrote:what does that mean? and if its mapped, why would it make any sound?H20nly wrote:maybe you have your space bar mapped??
if you turn on your MIDI mapping see if you have any strange entries in the panel on the left. you can delete them manually there. what it could be mapped to, is entirely up to you. it could be mapped to a bell in a drum rack... that is, if the space bar can be mapped. that's why i put two question marks after my post. i'm not sure that you can map the space bar and i'm not/wasn't at a computer with Live installed to double check for ya.
Re: Annoying beep/bell sound when pressing the play button
On the far right end of the screen is an io button. Turning this on and off reveals the input and output routings of your sound. Sometimes you sill also see meters representing the audio flow.
Are you using asio4all? If so, you can edit parameters in the pop up screen for that by hitting the little wrench button. Then you can turn on and off inputs and outputs as you see fit. The settings will only apply for whenever you open Ableton Live.
Edit: well, after defeating your problem, I have a feeling that it is not a feedback problem. In Preferences though, I'd experiment with turning off all MIDI outputs, see if that helps in any way
Do you have any software that runs alongside Ableton Live for extra control??

Yes, you were right. I turned off all MIDI channels and now the beep has gone. I will try to not listen to it when i'm using my MIDI keyboard, but i barely use it anyway. Thank you so much for your help. Now it means a lot to me, seriouslyyur2die4 wrote:On the far right end of the screen is an io button. ps: no, I've got only Ableton and ASIO, nothing else alongside them.
Re: Annoying beep/bell sound when pressing the play button
I'd suggest figuring out Which midi out is causing it so that you can use your setup flexibly. Your best bet would be to turn on note and remote for all of them. Then turn one off, hit play, see if you hear the sound, then go back, turn that back on, and turn the next off. I'm betting it is the windows or your soundcard's midi.
If it IS one of those two, I'd suggest checking your windows volume controls and lookin for midi or synth or whatever. You can usually turn that down individually. Or mute it
