MIDI mapping Presets...for the Love of God Please!!!

Post by Jon-J » Tue Aug 30, 2011 9:27 pm

Am I asking too much, I save an instrument rack with my Akai MPK49 painstakingly mapped to just about every useful control in my Sylenth Vst Synth - I save it as a Abe project and as my default start-up... OK fine that's very useful thanks!

But I don't want to have to open a brand new project in Ableton every time I want to use more than one version of my mapped Sylenth synth. I am experimenting with limiting myself to making every audible sound with just this one synth so I can really get to know it but as soon as I load a new Instrument rack the whole damn thing has no F@*!#*G midi mapping any more.

I want my synth mapped so fully because I don't see why I should use my mouse when I have an APC40 and an Akai MPK49 that have so many controls that I can really get back to using software like a real instrument.

Have Ableton really given any thought to the workflow, is it too much to ask?!!!?

I could say the same thing about the Automation... severely lacking, CMON AUTOMATION CLIPS ARE THE WAY FORWARD!?

Sorry but when you invest so much money in a DAW that I really do like despite my frustrations and you see every other companies DAW around moving forwards faster or even debuting with more advanced features it really ...Aaaarrgggghhhhhhh!!

Phew! Sorry

Just needed to tell someone!

Can't Sylenth save the MIDI mapping?

Sylenth does have a midi learn feature that just doesn't seem to work in my Abe, I click the midi learn button so the light comes on and move a fader, right click it or do what ever I can to get it to pay attention to it but I can't seem to hook them up.

Your right in that Sylenth should be able to store this in a preset but if someone can tell me how they midi learn in Abe with Sylenth I would be much obliged

Thanks for your response

Now you're sending the MIDI CC signals over the Remote MIDI Input. But to control a Synth using its own MIDI implementation, you need to send the CC's over the MIDI Track Input. Just like with a MIDI Keyboard.
On top of that, the MIDI Track that contains the instrument needs to have monitoring turned on, just like a MIDI Keyboard.
And the real fun part: You can record the automation in Clips.

Could you elaborate futher on that? arming the track for midi input so the track itself receives input does not enable the MIDI Learn function from sylenth when I try either. Neither can I record automation in Clips, only in arrange. I would very much like to know how it can be done.

I'm not familiar with Sylenth, but if it has its own MIDI Map, there should be a list of parameters in its manual or some reference to how its MIDI Learn works.

The important thing is that you enable Track mode for your controller if you want to control plugins in that way.

Thanks a lot hoffman2k, track mode was not enabled. its working now.

Unfortunately the next problem has arisen, which is if I change the knob with my mouse it will not update to the controller, while its output setting is enabled. Will search further on this, my apc does get the change, my bcf2000 does not, so will keep using my predefined template now which works in both directions, but unforunatly can only be used at one instance at a time.

Recording into a clip is now also possible. Really unfortunate that this same recording is not possible when mapping cc changes straight to a parameter instead via the track midi method or even by just changing a param with your mouse.

Via this recording midi method it also does not recognize the recorded parameter as for instance "cutoff", the cutoff parameter of the plugin will have no automation, instead an unnamed controller number under the MIDI Ctrl option will contain the automation stuff.

Hopefully this will be implemented soon.
