why is musci so shite?
nothing i listen to these days seems to be any good, when i look at the 60's, 70's, 80's and some of the nineties there is loads of great music every week in the charts, yet these days it's all wanky boy bands and girl bands, why has everyone became so easily pleased with music, ffs, anyone could make a cheesy tune and the world will latch on, that god dambed crazy frog has a single comin out, and you know what, it will probably go top ten!! has the world gone mad?? where is the modern day pink floyds, kraftwerks etc, tell me!!!!!!!!

That's interesting. I was having a conversation about this with some friends about this a couple of days ago. I think we live in very exciting times musically speaking. We have technology that allows the common person to record very high quality. With world travel and internet connections being what they are it affords a level of collaboration at levels never previously possible. Now this does mean there is a lot more mediocre stuff to hear and the commercial folks have a more difficult time putting things in boxes to spoon to the masses but there is some amazing stuff out there. Just look at Bjork, Coldcut, Simon Posford, Outkast, Sasha
and many other artists of today that have great skillz and the fortune of being heard by more than a few.
You also have to consider that the bands of yore that you mention are more legendary in todays time then they were when they were out. It is the gems that mark the era of music.
For every Pink Floyd there were a hundred Bay City Rollers bands out there.

I'm not quite sure what people want when they're asking for a new Pink Floyd?
Yet another trite guitar band that couldn't play at more than 80 BPM?
Seriously, though. The sound of music has changed, and the "new greats" are people like the Basement Jaxx, Neptunes, Dre, Underworld, Autechre... they're just applying their talents to a different genre of music today, I reckon.
