Re: Anyone uses a Traktor S4?
1. Can it be used as a midi controller? Silly, I know. But can the knobs be mapped to Ableton?
>>> Yes. <<<
2. Regarding the audio interface, this is what I'd like to do
Plug my mic into Traktor S4
Have an audio channel in Ableton receiving input from the mic
Route the audio channel's output into one of the decks in Traktor S4
Is that even possible?
>>> The first two things are, I don't think you can do the last bit though. You can run both apps at the same time, I don't think there's anyway to get Live to output into Traktor though. <<<
3. How good is the in-built audio interface? Can it function as a normal audio interface that people use for recording?
>>> Sure, it's not that bad at all. <<<
4. Can I scratch the outputs from Ableton?
>>> No, this can't even be done with Serato and Live using the Bridge. <<<
>>> Yes. <<<

Re: Anyone uses a Traktor S4?
Im using an S4 .... I sold my Ediroal FA-101 (never really used the 10ins/outs) and now use the S4 as my main audio interface. Seems to work fine - no complaints, no noticeable diff in audio quality from the FA-101 (cant say Ive done side-by-side)
I would think there would be a way to route ableton in Traktor but Ive not tried...

Yes you can: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8WcbjOm1uhYMixikyr wrote:I will be using Ableton as per normal using Maschine in place of APC40 (not sure if Maschine can toggle between Ableton mode and normal mode to play out beats on the fly)
Re: Anyone uses a Traktor S4?
I believe that Traktor can accept the mic input through the "live input" setting in the software, but using the S4 with Ableton doesn't make much sense - you wouldn't be able to use most of the really neat MIDI functionality that the S4 delivers.
Really, for what you're doing, you should just get a solid sound interface with a mic input, hook up a good MIDI beat pad (MPD or whatever), and do everything through Ableton. Use Impulse or Drum Racks or whatever to make beats on the fly.
Use the Looper Ableton instrument to loop what you're beatboxing.
Since your hands may be full, you can use an FCB1010 MIDI foot pedal to control the Looper and launch clips.

Re: Anyone uses a Traktor S4?
You can probably do what you’re looking to achieve just using the mic input on the S4 with Traktor’s sample decks. A sample deck has 4 individual loop recordings you can trigger on and off. Don’t ask me about the logistics past that. It’s already more than I ever hope to achieve.
Re: Anyone uses a Traktor S4?
Oh yeaaaaaah. True. He could actually use Traktor's loop recorder to record himself beatboxing / talking into the mic, then send that audio to the deck to scratch.beats me wrote:You can probably do what you’re looking to achieve just using the mic input on the S4 with Traktor’s sample decks. Re: Anyone uses a Traktor S4?
Traktor & Live on the same unit (i use windows) is not possible. Traktor has no rewire or a vst mode
. Try serato & bridge.
