I'm experimenting with changing time signatures live in my DJ sets. I perform in a place that doesn't encourage excessive dancing (more of a lounge thing) and I can make it happen. The issue I have is that I HAVE to set the triggering to quarter notes for anything going out of 4/4 and going back to 4/4. It's real easy to get one beat off and set my whole set a beat off until I try to fix it again with another 1/4 note quantized scene. The reason I'm stuck in this precision-essential situation is because setting the clip/scene trigger quantizing to a whole bar will change the bar that the music is in when you trigger the NEXT scene. In other words, if you're in 4/4 and you trigger a scene with 5/4 clips, the 4/4 clips will play for one additional beat to make that measure 5/4, THEN launch the next clips off one beat. So the down beats happen on the '2' on the counter on the transport bar on top of the Ableton Live interface. Somehow it continues to drift off beat by beat every time I shift signatures. BTW, I'm using the scene titles to change time signatures upon launch. You can hear an example of what I do in the beginning of my speakeasy demo heard at the site below.
