Random Chord Generator?

Post by domc » Wed Sep 21, 2011 7:02 am

I'm trying to create a random chord generator - I can get close but not exactly what I want.

Suppose you want to create a random major or minor chord (at a random pitch) by hitting a key or playing some clips.

You can generate a random major or minor chord using a different chord in sequential clips and then just using the random launch settings to randomise which clip (or chord) is played. But then if you feed this into the 'random' midi effect to try and randomise the root of the chord, then it randomises all three notes, rather than just root.

You could instead just take one input note, randomise it, and then try feed it to multiple chains in a midi rack, and on each chain you put a different 'chord' midi effect to generate the appropriate chords, but then you need some way of randomising the chain select procedure - and I don't know how to do this.

Any help appreciated.

Cheers, Domc

what i d do :

random midi effect
then a rack with two chains, one with a chord effect making a minor chord, the other with a major chord.
Then crazy automate the chain selection to make it look like it's random.

(or m4l, of course)
