I'm going to buy an Asus p8z68-Vpro over the next couple of days.

that's pretty much the general conclusion in internet land. Our Editor's Choice is clear, then. The Z68 has more goodness than any other Sandy Bridge chipset, and the P8Z68-V PRO is the best of the Z68 boards we've tested.

Gigabyte GA-Z68XP-UD5

+1 for ASUS, although i believe the gigabyte does have the coveted TI firewire chipset.

Asus P67 Sabretooth is what I use with my i7 2600k. Awesome.

Ditto on the Asus sabertooth p67
I just got a new computer with a Asus sabertooth p67 with an 3.4 ghz i7 2600. So far its been very stable, runs cool and is very overclockable. I have 8gb on it.
I got it from CPU solutions.com after hunting around. I ended up just buying the entire rig from them. It was only a little more than the separate components at NewEgg, and they had the components I wanted. I paid $1300 and change for an i72600, asus p67, 8gb memory, 500gb/7200 rpm, slowish video card, Antek case and water CPU cooler.
It is SO much better than my core2 laptop. I can now use Reason rewired with lots of effects and simultaneous stuff without worries (at least so far).
The chipset is not a TI, but is approved for my presonus audio interface- it works flawless. A far cry from the laptop with that junk Ricoh chipset.
I wouldn't hesitate to use the Asus- you'll have the benefit of being able to easily overclock, which the 2600 chip easily handles. I haven't needed it yet though!

Be sure to verify that your GPU and Memory are compatible with the motherboard...
