help assigning chords to a device to trigger with 1 key

Post by lcseer » Wed Oct 05, 2011 3:14 am

Hi All,

I am wanting to assign chords (midi notes) to a single key or (drum) pad to be able to use this programmed device to trigger a native ableton instrument or VST synth. The idea is to be able to line up these chords across a keyboard (or series of drum pads) in a device and use a controller keyboard to trigger these single notes which then each reproduce the programmed chords.

I am in a live performance setting playing a lead part on one synth and wanting to play chords with the other synth. I am not a fluid enough player to play the complicated chords with the lead at the same time, but could pull it off if I was able to hit individual notes on the "chording" synth.

Anyone have any suggestions? Was I clear in the description? Has it been done?

I am hoping to avoid dragging multiple samples into each single note on a sampler and trigger things this way, as this will need multiple layers if I hope to have a sound that can have different velocity sensitivities.

Thanks - LC

I think I know what you mean, I have used something like this in the Logic environment.

Have you checked out the 'scale' MIDI effect in live?

OR you could map the MIDI notes from your keyboard to trigger MIDI clips holding the desired chords.

use a midi rack, put each chord plugin on its own individual chain, map the chain select to be controlled from a macro, then midi map the macro to your keyboard if you have 10 chains hold the lowest key you want to use on the keyboard then press the one 10 keys up, and now you will have a different chain selectable of each key. make sure to adjust the range for the chain select macro and allso the midi map range to suit however many chains you make.
