Hi All,
Ever since I upgraded to 10.6.8 I've been having problems with audio on my MacBook Pro (specs are below). I'm always getting cpu spikes, almost regardless of how many (or few) tracks I have, how many plugins I'm using etc. Even a track that sits idle at 10% cpu usage and doesn't go above 30% during playback will still exhibit the glitches and spikes. I'm getting similar problems with audio outside of Ableton so I believe it's not an issue with Live specifically. For example an OS system sound (like clicking on a dialog that isn't enabled) will loop endlessly so that I have to reboot to stop it. I've browsed through the Ableton forums as well as Google and tried the following things based on what I've found:
- Freeze all tracks
- Convert all midi to audio files
- Reduce the number of plugins (I tend to put them on Aux buses anyways instead of piling them on as inserts)
- Downgrade /System/Library/Extensions/AppleHDA.kext to the 10.6.7 version
- Delete the Audio preferences at '/Library/Preferences/Audio' and restart
- Play around with Live's Latency and CPU buffer settings
- Watched all the log files in the Console - no errors are ever reported when the problems occur.
Has anyone else experienced this and solved it yet? It's driving me crazy and totally interfering with music production of any sort
Thanks,
Noah
