Robust MIXING Features

Post by hmj » Mon Oct 24, 2011 4:53 am

It's a shame that mixing is so neglected in Live because the program is so innovative in every other aspect of music production.

1. No support for the Eucon protocol keeps Live OUT of the professional conversation.
2. Little triangles are an embarrassing excuse for faders. I totally dig minimalism but I also like functionality and purpose so let's come up with something a more respectable.
3. No advanced automation like latch, automation trim, grid based breakpoints
4. Amateur soloing features with busses.
5. Terrible metering. What the heck is going on there? Every track is represented as stereo and the gain staging representation is confusing at best.

The list goes on. It's time for the people at Ableton to stop treating mixing as an afterthought. Ableton is hands down the best DAW for composition but I find myself having to go back to Pro Tools to mix and I hate it. Ableton developers PLEASE address these issues! Staying in Ableton from start to finish would be amazing and the truth is that the program is not that far off.

Could be cool, but pointless without suggestion 3

i am totally fine with this. I like triangles

3. No advanced automation like latch, automation trim, grid based breakpoints

Totally agree, and should add automation curves from a point to another

4. Amateur soloing features with busses.

don't know what you mean

There are no mono tracks in live

I wouldn't mind having more features in Live for actual mixing. I like the fast workflow on Live, but it just doesn't match features for serious production like Sonar (for example).

As far as automation goes, it could use more mainstream options along with some sort of smoothing (like when you use a surface and you end up with a TON of little reference points making it a severe pain to edit with a mouse later).

What I really want to see is some form of layering and SEPARATE brackets for loop and punch. I know it's streamlined with one, but it would make lead-ins a lot easier with two. Also, I left Live for major recordings due to the layering and comping features. It makes recording the perfect take so much quicker and easier.
