external HD question

Post by grizzly joe » Thu Oct 27, 2011 9:16 pm

yo guys/girls, i have a question about external drives. i just got komplete among other software, and i want to place my komplete library and other samples on an external drive to free up HD space on my macbook pro.

i'm pretty sure i'm just gonna get a western digital my passport essential, and reformat it to be compatible with time machine and my mac.

the question is, is there really an advantage in buying an external drive that is already formatted for mac/time machine? does it just cost more cause someone else already formatted it?

thx for any help!!!!!
peace&love

yeah dude, you are right on. time machine works just as well with a HD that you formatted yourself. don't spend the extra money.
most of the time i buy my own enclosures and hard drives and build them myself....its super easy, and like i said, it works just as well with time machine.
i did buy a western digital mybook recently though, the one con about those western digital hard drives is their smartware software, it is a pain in the ass...i never tried to use it, but they make it really difficult to delete it or hide it.
