Microphone only recording/playing back on the left channel

I'm trying to record some found sound stuff in my room and some vocals, but ableton only registers the input on the left channel and plays it back the same..Is there anyway I can get the signal balanced so it comes out equally of both speakers?

you need to enable mono inputs before you can use them in a track and set the track input to just 1, or 2 (rather than 1 & 2, which is stereo)
to enable mono input go to your preferences, input section and look at the hardware setup, check the relevant box that looks like a numbered mono input.

now your track should show mono channel inputs 1, 2, (...etc) in addition to whatever stereo channels you previously saw.

Note : only activate mono inputs where you need them, eg: whatever channel is your mic input.
