i just rehauled my entire studio. the key items being: ableton Live 4.1, a brand new intel 4 3.2 Ghz laptop w/ 2gigs of RAM & SATA external hard drive, and the MOTU 828mkII...
problem: after i record a mono clip (4min long) and play it back, the audio 'pops', drops out randomly and usually i can hear intermitten pink noise at different frequencies. this is true when i record in logic too so this problem is not isolated to ableton...what gives??...these sounds also appear, to a lesser extent, when tracking... i have checked my sample rates, checked my audio cables, optical cables (828 gets 8 digital ins from a M-audio Octane 8 chnnl preamp), i am stumped...
i set my buffer as high as possible on the MOTU 828, latency is avoided by listening through its 'live cue mix' feature.
any advice?
