Automap Browser (user, fx, inst, mixer)

Post by Quaker » Sat Nov 26, 2011 11:42 pm

Hello, it may sound completely noobie but... What happens with the browser on Automap? I have a Zero SL MKII and I edited a VST instrument as I like it, so when I press Automap and then "Inst" I have the map for that instrument ready every time. That's great but, the rest of the browser tabs (user, fx and mixer) are empty. Why can't I, for example, create an Audio Effect Rack in Ableton and map that rack as I like it so when I press "fx" I have the mapping for that Audio Effect Rack and when I press "inst" I have the mapping on that VST instrument before mentioned? It's frustating having that all and just using the "inst" tab.

When you press, for example, the "fx" tab, you see an empty panel with some squares on it. Why can't I just create a new mapping on one empty slot and have the panel with some mappings controlling different Audio Effect Racks?

So I'd like to have the plug-in as I already have it and use the rest of the tabs to create new learn-method mappings. To have, for example, the "fx" tab to control some Audio Effect Racks, the "inst" tab to control the VST instrument, the "mixer" tab to control the volume, pan,...etc. like in non-automap mode, and the "user" tab to some other controls.

If you say "you can do that by not using Automap": I want to use it as I can configure the "momentary, toggle,..." mode otherwise I couldn't.

Thanks in advance.

Automap works with inst and fx by wrapping vsti's and vst's into automap's software. Ableton Live fx are not wrappable as they are not recognized as supported file types for that method. You can however acquire a similar vst effect to replace the Ableton effect and go that route.

Mixer is used for daw's that have pre-assigned midi parameters for their mixers.

User is for personal custom maps that can always be at your disposal.

I guess I'd make a rack of the effect you want to control that works well with the control surface scripts, and assign a button to 'highlight' or select the titlebar of that rack for instant-ish access.

Sorry I could not be of more help to you :/

I appreciate your answer. Thank you.
It's a pitty you can't press learn and assign anything you can with non Automap mode. The worst of this is that you lose the "momentary", "toggle"...etc. modes if you can't use Automap. :(
Could you or anyone who have the Zero MKII give me an example of a full used browser using it with Ableton?

It can be done, but you need to use an script. There is one around here made for nocturn.

Then you can complement it, the trick is to asign a midi chanel for inst, other for fx, other for mixer. Then its posible to midi map them traditionally.

But time from time it seems to mess up with chanels, so I recommend saving your maping files constantly.

As I read in that post you told me, it won't work with the Zero SL MKII nor another controller but the Nocturn...
Thank you anyway for your response.

Anyone with the Zero SL MKII knows something to fully use the browser?
