Question regarding Sampler!

Post by zetaborealis » Wed Nov 30, 2011 3:48 pm

So I've recently started using sampler but I'm still having some problems.
I've got some long bass samples and I've been assigning envelopes to the filters within sampler to get the plucky/stab kind of sounds. So I want to program some midi notes in so that I can have like 3 stabs or plucks in quick succession. However as soon as the midi note ends the sample stops playing completely, when I want the release tail of the sound to still be playing when the next note starts. As in I want the release part of the sound to start playing when the midi note ends, just like how it happens when you program midi for a synth instrument.
Do you guys know what I mean? maybe this is a very basic question with a simple answer so I apologize, but it would be really appreciated.

Also, another question, how can I get VST plugins synths such as nexus, to be velocity sensitive within ableton?

Switch to the Filter/Global tab and right down in the bottom corner you will see an "R" button - switch this off.
This is the retrigger button, with it on the same note will retrigger the same voice to be reused.

In your other VSTs you need to look for something that modulates the volume by note velocity. In ableton, the convention used is something like Vol<Vel as seen in the Filter/Global tab of sampler or it is sometimes simply labelled as Vel when displayed in the context of a volume envelope. This will need to be set to something other than 0%.

First, set the sample up to loop in the main sample tab. Then, tweak the releases on the amp & filter envelopes to taste in the Filter/Global tab.
