Latency with APC40

Post by TASsadar » Mon Dec 05, 2011 6:17 am

Hello once again people! I can't seem to put this question in a few words that I could find any results with into the search function on the board, so I decided to just ask here.

I am running Ableton with a recently purchased APC40. I use a Focusrite Saffire 6 USB interface, and write/mix with a decent pair of headphones plugged into the audio interface.

I am getting a tiny tiny bit of lag with my APC40 that I didn't notice until I started to try to use the clip launch buttons without quantization with the rest of the tune, for a scratch type effect (I have no idea if I am using the proper language here lol, sorry).

In a nutshell, I want to be able to have "None" selected for the quantization of a particular track so that when I hit the button perfectly in time with the song, the track plays perfectly in time with the song, but what I am getting is a tiny bit of delay between when I hit the button and when I hear the track, so it's never quite right, and I am not finding like a sweet spot for predicting how to compensate.

How do I start with issues like this? I have no idea where to look for adjusting latency. I poked around a bit in settings but to no avail.

Thanks for your help!!

you were on the right track...open preferences/audio and youll see the input and output latency settings and the compensation....depending your system you can tune those to taste...

also asio4all (free) soundcard driver works best for me, though some here seem to frown on it, for me it works better for finding that 0 latency sweetspot...
