Can you hook this (and other similar units) up to a laptop somehow and use it as an FX unit ?????

Surgeon was jammin' one the other week when I saw him play. He looked to be using it as a midi controller for the program rather than a specific fx unit.

It depends on how your soundcard allows realtime processing if you can feed through it and back in. You just need to watch out for a feedback loop.

Short answer...

Yes...

However you'll need an extra input and output to create an fx loop.

Great, now you've made me load up Live at work... how am I supposed to get anything done now? :)

Sure... if you want to use the kaoss pad on a send track... you'll need to have the send track output audio to a stereo output... which would send audio to the kaoss pad.

Then you would take some other audio track and have it get audio from the input on your soundcard that the kaoss pad is outputting to.

---

If that makes any sense great... so you now have your fx loop... which is why you need an extra input/output stereo pair. You'd still need at least a stereo output to be able to hear anything you are doing... and another input if you wanted to input audio from another source... then if you still want pre-listening you'd also want an additional stereo output for a pre-listen track... yada yada yada...

Or if you have a hardware mixer with an efx send/return that will work as well, just so long as you don't mind effecting the whole signal, which you probably do, in that case you'll want another pair or stereo outs on your audio card and........

Be wary of the latency issue with send/return. If you use the KP2 on a send channel in live, you may get some nasty ass flamming.
