Tascam US-2400/ABLETON 4.1

i just bought the Tascam US-2400 (24 channel) control surface...it is pretty to look at and touch...

...but i am having trouble setting up a MIDI map with ableton....this is oh so important...I am using the US-2400's "native mode" which i understand sends and receives standard MIDI control data (as opposed to the Mackie emulations this controller is also capable of running...and yes i know these emulations don't work with ableton...but the native mode should...???...).

has anyone out there had success using this control surface and ableton together?...

i have been able to map channels 1-8/master fader/transport but channels 9-24 wont work unless i replace it with a previous assignment from channels 1-8.

there has to be a way to get these two to play nicely together... it would be the yummiest setup ever...
