KP3 as macro controller (help with takeover mode)

Running my KP3 in "ext ctrl" mode, I'm wanting to use the touch faders to control macros. I've set everything up so that the 8 vertical sliders correspond to those of the macro's, but pickup takeover mode only seems to work initially (i.e. have to meet the current state on the Y axis) and once it has picked up the signal, anywhere I press on the y axis, it immediately hops to that point, even if I refocus to another macro and then come back to it. Does anybody know how I could set it up so that the takeover mode resets if I move focus to another device, so that it has to re-pickup when I switch between macros?
