using a PC server to play live(vs a mac mini)

Post by Muzik 4 Machines » Sat Jan 14, 2012 3:23 am

i got an opportunity to get a used 1u server (dual xeon 2,5, 8 gb ram, 4 scsi HD) for like 60$ in bulk
would that be a good machine to play live (plus it fits in my roadcase) or is there things servers would be worse than using a normal PC? i mean for the price i might just get it and install winblows on it (it even has a firewire port for my traveler, tho if i recall this card sucks on any windows except win7, is that true?

it's like 800 bucks less than buying a mac mini with way less ram and hard drive, so i would really like to know if there is any counter indication on using a server machine for performance (except the fan noise, which i don't care a bit, i'll just play louder)

It`s hardware like any other (If your system can use this resource it`s cool, you need to check it tho), copatibility is your problem. Ask yourself a question if items you need to work with will work with system you need on this machine and machine itself.
