Here's a summary of the shortcomings of the MIDI Remote features that i have come up with in Live 4.1. if anyone has any workarounds or suggestions for fixes, you'll be my hero, and i will buy you a drink (some day)
1. Arm Exclusive is not working when tracks are armed remotely. Well, occasionally it does, but i can find no consistency as to when it does and when it doesn't. in most cases, the previously armed track remains armed, necessitating remembering to disable the previous arming assignment before moving on the the next track.
2. When you arm a track manually, Live also selects that track in the session view. Arming a track remotely does not select the currently armed track. This small problem i have worked around by assigning a second controller on my FCB 1010 to select the track. i had hoped that maybe the Arm Exclusive bug might have been related to the order in which the MIDI remote commands were received, but seemingly nothing I do changes it.
3. Launch/recording a clip manually selects that clip in the session view, highlighting the correct scene and track.. Launch/recording a clip MIDI Remotely does not select that clip, or it's scene or track: the previously highlighted track and scene stay highlighted. . Why does this matter? At present (correct me if I'm wrong, of course) Live has no way of deleting the latest clip you have recorded using MIDI remote. Manually, you just hit the delete button, and then you are free to re-record the same clip as many times as you desire, until you get what you want. This would seem to me to be a fundamental requirement of a phrase looper.As you are probably aware, the little app called Controlaid attempts to get around this by hacking Panther's Universal Access features and assigning a note value which can be used to delete the last recorded clip. however, it requires that the clip be highlighted in order to work properly.
