(1) How can I make the simpler play the whole sample, regardless of the length of the MIDI-Note?

(2) Is it possible to perform a kind of - let's call it - "inverted cropping":
Only the loop region is cut out of the clip.

(3) In session mode: Is is possible to cut a clip into pieces of x bars and generate new clips, one for each piece, in one step. So far, I always move the clip into the arrangement, cut it up there and move the pieces back into the session.

(4) What are the send controls in the return tracks for?

To answer your second question, there is no cutting in session view. Trimming and splicing in arrangement view is the correct procedure.

The sends on the return tracks are there for added flexibility, but are disabled by default so you don't accidentally create some speaker damaging feedback loops. One example of how you might use it is a degenerating or analog style delay: drop an EQ3 in Return A, and turn down the highs a bit. Drop a simple delay after that set to 400ms and feedback at zero. This will give you one repeat, slightly darker. Right click the A send knob, and enable it. Turn it up a bit. The send level will determine the number of repeats, and each will be darker than the last. Just be careful, if you go to high, each repeat will get louder, and it will start looping infinitely.

Say what? Open an audio clip, right click on the waveform, choose Slice to New Midi track, and pick whatever options you want from there. You can also set your start/end markers in the waveform display and then drag the clip onto a pad in a Drum Rack on another channel or just trim the clip in-place if that's what you want.

Turn the release on the volume envelope all the way up.

Not directly. You could: put 2 Simplers with the same sample in an Instrument rack, play the whole sample in one, and on the other chain select just the region you don't want to play (make sure your start/end markers in the region you have selected are at 0 crossing points to avoid any clicks when that section of audio phases out) and put a Utility plugin after it with both the L and R phases inverted.

I was referring to cutting and pasting different sections out of a clip to, for example, edit a performance by comping bits from multiple passes.

I forgot to mention that I work with MIDI-clips exclusively. But thanks anyway, I didn't know that this is possible in Live!!

So, if it's possible to slice an audio clip, I guess I can do the same with a MIDI clip. Right? Well, I don't see a way to do that so far <
