Ableton live and SMPTE analog tape sync?

Post by Ojd » Mon Jan 30, 2012 1:24 pm

Hello. I wonder if there's a way to sync ableton set to analog tape on tascam 414 (thru SMPTE timecode)? It is sure possible in REAPER, in that REAPER sends audio SMPTE (timecode generator item), and i record that signal to tape, later i playback the tape using DBX position 'sync', to one of the interface inputs, REAPER listens to audio input for synchronization and moves transport accordingly. There's no comprehensive tutorial on how to use it, and i just tried recording levels and 'timecode generator item' by trial and error, it gave me pretty stable sync, though trying to multitrack audio causes some audible de-sync. Is ableton able to sync to incoming audio SMPTE? I assume if ableton would make it to work, it would be dead-stable, as everything with LIVE's timing (and audiotrack routings). Also any tips on how to combine live laptop action and tape playback?
