Post by scottanthony » Thu Mar 10, 2005 9:40 pm

can ableton cut up and edit audio tracks (wav)?
what programs are known to make it easy to edit sound files and save the chopped up or rearranged pieces, to sequence in live?
thanks

I like Sound Forge. I'm on a PC.
Some Mac people like Bias Peak, I think.

live does. cuts like a razorblade. when you're done, select what you need, hit ctrl j and you will find the new wav or aiff-file in your project-folder. i don't know why I ever would need to open a different program to edit.

for more than just cutting i also suggest sound forge (although not really cheap...) if you are on pc
for quick cutting i use an small app called wave surgeon, it is cheap, old, simple and even allows you to send samples via scsi (sf does also)

Ableton can do cutting (as detailed by previous posters), but the interface really reminds me more of cutting/pasting tape reels. If you're looking for a tool for resampling files, you'd be better off with an independent sample editor.

And fwiw, I hate soundforge. Do yourself a favor and try out the cooledit/adobe audition line. All the power, none of the fluffy interface. :)

Yes all those functions are available in the arranger view.

If you check out the manual it tells you all about what you want to know.
