assigning faderfox lc2 controls in live 5.05

hi there folks

hope you can help me out with a quick (and possibly stupid) question.

i am trying to set up a simple control scheme using my faderfox lc2 and ableton live 5.05. i've set up faders etc to work fine and now i want to use a single encoder (encoder a) to scroll up and down the list of scenes and to play them by pressing it.

i can only get it to let me scroll down or scroll up with the controller but not to do both with the same one. i am entering midi mode in ableton and selecting the scroll down icon then turning the encoder. i set it to relative mode and it lets me scroll one way fine but turning the controller the other way does nothing. when i then try to set it so turning the same encoder the other way scrolls up it says that it is already assigned. setting up play from pressing it works fine too.

i know i'm making a mistake somewhere but i can't figure out what i am doing wrong. can you please let me know how to go about doing this properly?
